I started this blog to discuss some new vampire discoveries that will be featured in my upcoming book, In the Vampire’s Grasp: Narrating America’s Restless Dead. A new edition of my first vampire book, Food for the Dead: On the Trail of New England’s Vampires(Wesleyan University Press, 2011), includes a new preface. I am a folklorist, with a Ph.D. in Folklore from Indiana University, Bloomington; my dissertation topic was African American voodoo beliefs and practices. I also have a variety of publications and media productions on topics ranging from the magical properties of the black cat bone to the occupational folklife of shellfishing on Narragansett Bay. My book, Food for the Dead, was a BookSense 76 Pick and winner of the Lord Ruthven Assembly Award for Best Nonfiction Book on Vampires.
